Art & Design All Around You
In a world saturated with noise, both visually and auditory trying to grab your attention, it is sometimes hard to slow down and take time to really see the beauty of art and design that can be seen all around us and in unexpected places. Here are a few we've spotted for you recently.
In Concrete Buildings
You generally either love or hate brutalist architecture. We love it and its geometric forms. While the UK has a lot of the best brutalist buildings, including Keeling House, there are fascinating brutalist designs world wide. They aren't all just mid century building either, the list includes designs as recent as last year.
In Textiles
Asmuss prints have been influenced by the textile art of Anni Albers. While she also influenced contemporary textile artists, including Sheila Hicks, there are many directions that textile art has taken such as the immersive use of textile by Chiharu Shiota.
In Rivers
Sculptures can interact with their locations and also allow people to interact with them, such as the Iron Reef in Norfolk.
If you do happen to be in Norfolk this August do visit Percy Langley in Burnham Market, North Norfolk until early September as Asmuss is available there.
On Bike Paths
Enjoying the outdoors together with art/design and history is a great combination. A scalloped shelter on the Austrian/Slovakian section of the Iron Curtain Trail is both practical and lighthearted and a great spot for a break or lunch.
